Group Class Curriculum Overview
Group Conversation Class (Beginner)
Six students follow the teacher’s guidance to discuss topics of interest at their age and English level. Examples include foods, world cultures, and amazing animals. Every student is encouraged to speak on their own, and interact with each other. This is the ideal way to let beginning students become comfortable speaking in English.
Socratic Seminar Class (Intermediate)
If we six students were going to open a coffee shop together, what sort of planning would we need to do? If we were all on the mayor’s staff, what changes would we make in our city? Topics that get every student’s opinions engaged form the seeds of each Socratic seminar. Intermediate students can benefit most from this environment to learn how to deploy their growing vocabulary to express themselves in English.
Debate Class (Advanced)
Is homework really necessary? Should schools forbid students from bringing smart phones? How about school uniforms? Six students form two teams of three, and take on the roles of the Proponents and the Opposition (Pro and Con) for a proposition. Every debate class consists of two sessions; the first session for team discussion and preparation, and the second session for debate. This is the ideal way for advanced students to get the stimulus they need to achieve true mastery and fluency in English; further, it is a rare chance to develop problem solving and leadership skills.
Century Bridge Book Club
We all would like to see students reading more in English – Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Hunger Games, Harry Potter…but without impetus, reading in English is a hard habit to form. The Century Bridge book club brings a positive, supportive environment to keep students on track. The teacher sets a reasonable reading pace and helps students through difficult passages, so students maintain their momentum and curiosity as they progress through the story.

Why is one-on-one so important?
Have you or your child struggled with English proficiency in the past? Every student has a different learning style. Unfortunately, many of the classes that students take in public or private school have a “one-size-fits-all” approach. That doesn’t work for many students. At Century Bridge, our teaching team has decades of experience designing courses and curricula for students of all ages and all learning styles, and all our experience tells us that the vast majority of students can benefit from a customized learning experience tailored to their particular needs.
